For lovers of turbo-charged, reasonably priced performance, breaking news overnight will put a smile on their faces. Hyundai have confirmed in an interview with Automotive News that their upcoming rear-wheel-drive Genesis Coupe will be sporting a turbo-charged four-cylinder option.

The new engine is a joint development between Hyundai, Chrysler and Mitsubishi. Displacing 2.0-litres it will feature direct-injection and the much rumoured turbo, quite probably making this version of the Coupe the tuners favourite.

The turbo Coupe will also feature a six-speed manual, possibly an optional LSD and there may even be some Hyundai factory performance parts on the way. The V6 variant of the Coupe will feature a 3.8-litre V6 expected to produce in excess of 224kW/300hp but expect the turbo four to be the popular choice on the street.

Hyundai also confirmed that they will be fielding a FWD replacement for the Tiburon as well as developing other turbo engines for use within their model range.
