Land Rover LRX SUV Coupe Concept

You are not meant to be seeing these images of Land Rovers stunning LRX SUV Coupe Concept. The official embargo on these images is not due to lift until December 18, but Auto Motor und Sport’s editors decided not to give a toss…and released them all…six days early.

The LRX may look like it has more in common with a Range Rover Sport but it is actually smaller than the Freelander on whose chassis it is based. Measuring 4.35 metres in length and 1.55 metres high, it is 7cm shorter and 12cm lower than the Freelander.

In Concept form the LRX is kitted out with 20-inch alloys and gains much of its low overall height through having a very un-SUV-like ground clearance of just 13 cms.

The rest of the LRX is pure concept with a space age interior featuring plenty of aluminium and leather along with two touch screens that greatly reduce the number of functions controlled by buttons and dials.

The unique glass roof is unlikely to make it into the production version, which will interestingly be based on the Ford Focus platform (not the Freelander like the concept) and possibly feature a hybrid variant.

I think this Land Rover concept owes a great deal to Saab design. The car's menacing, blue eyed front end with gouged out front-side air intakes smacks of Saab Aero.
