Suzuki appear to have another small car winner on their hands, or at least they will when their A-Star concept becomes a production reality. Undoubtedly, one of the best looking compact cars around the A-Star concept will be unveiled next month at the New Delhi Motor Show.
It is expected that the production version of the A-Star will be built by the Maruti Suzuki partnership in India at their Manesar plant, with production scheduled to begin in October 2008.
The new Suzuki will be Euro 5 compliant and although there is little detail available, it is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre engine.
From India the new compact Suzuki will be exported to most world markets, including Asia, Europe and the States. Interestingly, India has become a very important market for Suzuki with sales in India during the first half of 2007 actually outperforming Suzuki’s home market in Japan.
The Murati/Suzuki partnership is in simple terms the Indian Government in partnership with Suzuki and they are on their way to being capable of producing one million cars per annum by 2010/2011.
