Ford’s sale of Jaguar and Land Rover is entering the home straight with news coming through overnight that the bids are in. The once proud British manufacturers are being sold as a “package deal” and final bids have been submitted by all bidders including, India’s Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra as well as One Equity Partners.

The bids are believed to be between $US1.5 and $US2.0 billion, with the folks from Ford looking at the final bids over the coming week or so. It would be nice to thinks that Ford will take some responsibility for these historical British brands and choose the most suited buyer as opposed to just the highest bidder.

It is widely believed that Tata Motors is the best fit with Jaguar and Land Rover and the least likely to break up the operations or move manufacturing jobs out of the UK.

I think they can still be proud. Marketing and accounting botched things, but Jaguar and Land Rover have both been through much darker times.
