Holden Ute will be no El Camino

Hopes of the famous Chevy El Camino nameplate being resurrected for the Holden supplied Ute in the US appear to have been dashed with new information coming to light. According to Pickuptruck.com the Holden supplied ute will be rebadged as a Pontiac G8 ST, with the ST standing for “Sports Truck”.

As much as many were hoping to see the El Camino return, it may be more appropriate for the Holden Ute to begin a new legend, rather than assuming the identity of an old one – being Aussie and possibly a little biased, I think the new Ute will have what it takes.

Pickuptruck.com have also suggested that pricing will start around $US31,000 and the G8 ST will only be available with the 6.0-litre V8, unlike Oz versions which can also be optioned with the 3.6-litre Alloytec V6.
