Ferrari Releases Official Pics Of 599XX

Ferrari 599XX

When Ferrari lifted the lid on its ‘productionised test mule’, the 599XX, at the recent Geneva Auto Show, we were offered but a glimpse of the 599-based race-ready technological laboratory.

Not any more. Ferrari has released a slew of images depicting its latest experiment, which will only be on offer to privileged Ferrari customers and can only be driven at Ferrari-sanctioned track testing sessions.

A ‘regular’ 599 already looks pretty fine, but throw on a set of lightweight racing wheels, a couple of unorthodox C-pillar mounted wings and an active rear diffuser and you have one tough-lookin’ automobile. More pics after the jump.

The 599XX is designed to be a rolling testbed for Ferrari’s next generation supercar tech and although it’s a track-only proposition, much of the 599XX’s high-tech componentry may eventually trickle down to Ferrari’s future road-going offerings.

The 599XX’s V12 mill is based upon the standard car’s donk, reworked heads with low-restriction inlet and exhaust ports bump power up to a heady 522kW (700hp) at 9000rpm. Shift programming on the F1 derived semi-auto transaxle knocks shift times down to just 60 milliseconds, which is pretty darn quick for a non-twin-clutch gearbox.

Aerodynamics is a key focus of the 599XX, and it shows. A sizable front splitter sits under the 599XX’s chin, the entire underside of the car is flat, a louvered bonnet extracts heat from the engine bay, winglets at the rear of the cabin promote downforce and a fan-assisted rear diffuser sucks the car to the ground while simultaneously minimising drag.

The end result? 280kg of downforce at 200km/h, and 630kg at 300km/h.

Form AND Function? The 599XX has got both in spades.

From an engineering standpoint, would love to know how to fan assisted diffuser works and the rationale behind the wings mounted on the rear buttresses…

hey, some how i see some JDM flavor, globalization i guess
