After endless wrangling and head-butting with head office, Volkswagen Australia may be on the cusp of delivering the seductive Scirocco to Australian showrooms.
A source within Volkswagen Group Australia allegedly told an inquisitive enthusiast that the Scirocco is “currently undergoing the various tests to ensure the vehicle is able to withstand the Australian conditions”.
The source also said that should the Scirocco satisfy these tests, the model would likely be introduced later this year or in early 2010.
We’re awaiting confirmation from VW’s local arm, but it’s no secret that the Scirocco has been on Volkswagen Group Australia boss Jutta Dierk’s wishlist since the model was first unveiled. Has her tenacity paid off? We’ll find out soon.

Why is the Scirocco available in New Zealand and not in Australia?
God I hope this makes it here.
Awesome looking car.
I think its due to the fact that VW Australia needs to make sure the car passes Australian Design Rules (ADR), where as New Zealand is more carefree and follows the European Design Rules?
That is also the reason why the Civic Hatch was delayed for so long in australia.
Thats what the VW person might have ment their their ‘testing’ for Australian conditions…
Would love to see this car on Australian roads. We have way too many boring econoboxes, and not enough great looking cars. Jutta Dierk will definitely be on my xmas list if she does bring the car here.
I will wait and see if vw bring this car Australia as i was going to but new Mazda mps 3 or civic type r but this car looks awesome.
This reminds me of when I bought my current car (a VW GTI) a couple of years ago. I really wanted the Civic Type R but I kept on reading, ‘No, it’s NOT coming to Aus’. I even called and emailed Honda and they replied saying it wasn’t happening. So, I went and bought my Vdub (which I’m glad about now, it’s great). 2 months later I pick up Wheels magazine and, lo and behold, Type R was confirmed. Pants!
So please VW, don’t make the same mistake that Honda made, bring out the Scirroco. Top Gear UK even made a couple of TV adverts you can use
(you’ll see them in the next series, they are brilliant!) hehehehehe.
