Come the middle of this year, the German prestige carmaker will offer the 2010 Audi A5 with the company’s 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder.

Fans of the higher capacity V6 will find that the bigger 3.2 litre TFSI V6 engine will – unlike Audi’s A3, A4 and TT models – continue to be offered as an option for models equipped with the Tiptronic transmission and quattro all-wheel-drive.

Not only does this news follow reports that Audi will drop the V6 from its A3, A4 and TT models, but it also comes in the wake of rumours that the next generation of S4 and S5 models will do the same.

The four-cylinder turbo A5 will develop 157kW (211hp) and 190Nm (258lb-ft) of torque, channelled through either a six-speed manual or Tiptronic transmission, giving the A5 the ability to hit 100km/h in about seven seconds.

Those considering the 2010 Audi A5 should also look out for new LED taillights and Audi’s MMI infotainment system.  A ‘19-inch Sports Package’ option will feature 19-inch alloy rims on sports suspension, paddle shifters and sport seats up front.
