The lads at Auto Express say these latest renderings of the McLaren P11 supercar are the most accurate yet, but for some reason we can’t help but be a little underwhelmed.
Compared to the unique race-car stylings of the McLaren F1, the P11 looks almost generic in its shape. McLaren’s gunning for Ferrari’s F430 with this one and it shows: proportionally, both the P11 and the Fezza are very similar.
But beauty, as they say, is more than just skin deep. An AMG-sourced 6.2 litre V8 will sit amidships and power the rear wheels, while carbon-ceramic brakes will be the standard stoppers. A KERS-style regenerative braking system is also expected to feature on the P11, and will give drivers a temporary power boost at the push of a button.
Weight will be kept down to around 1200kg thanks to extensive use of carbonfibre and other lightweight materials, and we’ve no doubt the suspension tune will gift the P11 with stellar handling.
Around 1000 P11s will be built during the model’s first year, with pricing expected to sit around the £150,000 (AU$308,100) mark. The P11 is expected to launch sometime in 2011, with an F1-successor and a sub-£100k model joining it soon after.

It kind of reminds me of a supercar in a video game that hasn’t got the licence for real cars, so they just knock-off existing ones and tweak them just enough to be generic…
It looks like McLaren’s designers have been playing too much Burnout Paradise. This thing lacks the edge of the F1 and I’m praying Auto Express’s artists have just got it horribly wrong.
It looks like a cheap rip off of the audi R8
