Last week, we showed you an image that saw civil war break out in the German auto industry, with Audi firing a shot across the bow of the good ship BMW, immediately followed by a retaliatory shot from the Bimmer dreadnought.

As we suspected it might, Audi has responded with its ultimate weapon: the Audi R8.

Rather than sniping directly at BMW, the brand with the four rings has pulled out the Gatling gun and raked the entire luxury segment, suggesting that buyers take a good hard look at their luxo brand of choice.

Casualties are likely to be confined to their respective advertising agencies... so does anyone care?
