Fresh from crashing his Fezza, Fiat chief Sergio Marchionne has given the rumour mongers (like ourselves) plenty to stew over after confirming that he has been talking to the folks at Daimler…and not just about engines. This follows on from talks between Fiat and Daimler last month regarding a possible alliance.

“We’re not just talking with Daimler about engines, we’re talking about everything,” Marchionne told reporters on the margins of a conference.

In June of this year Fiat signed a 2.4 billion Euro deal with Daimler to supply truck engines and Fiat is making no secret of the fact that it is looking for a “strategic partner”, having held talks on the subject with a number of auto makers.

One would think that Daimler, fresh from its divorce with Chrysler LLC would like a bit of time to play the field before settling down again…
