This year’s New York Auto Show will see Mitsubishi display its Outlander GT Prototype, but don’t be fooled by the ‘Prototype’ in the title. What you’re looking at is an updated version of the Mitsubishi Outlander.

The Outlander GT Prototype is most likely what we'll see as a facelifted production update to the current Outlander. On the outside the GT Prototype shows off Outlander’s first major styling update, borrowing its squinted lamps and road-eating grin from the Lancer sedan.

At the rear, the Outlander will be business as usual, with no sweeping changes to the rear quarters and only mild revisions to the LED tail lights.

Part of that economy gain is due to the Idle Neutral Logic transmission which shifts into neutral when the car is at a standstill.

Improved handling is also on offer, with a tweaked all-wheel-drive system featuring Mitsubishi’s Super-All-Wheel-Control to regulate torque at each corner.

Timing for the Outlander update is not yet known, but the advancing age of the current Outlander should see movement on the new model before too long.
