Honda FCX Hydrogen fuel cell car gets production green light

Earlier this week we reported on Honda’s intention to produce a production version of their hybrid powered CR-Z Concept. In arguably even more interesting news Honda have also announced their intention to begin production of their hydrogen powered FCX Concept car.

We can expect a production version of the FCX concept car to be unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show in November this year with sales to get underway in the US and Japan in 2008. The FCX gets around the issue of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure by providing a “make your own” plant dubbed the ‘Honda Energy Station’, a natural gas powered home-based refueling station that produces hydrogen via a series of chemical reactions.

Honda see the FCX as the start of the only real solution to the current energy and emissions issues. Natural gas is in plentiful supply and the FCX’s only emission is water vapour. Nice one Honda.

Australian availability is unknown but possible given refuelling will likely be via the Honda Energy Station.
