Helta Skelta

An unlikely looking Australian built road racing rocket is upstaging the exotic big name brands at this years Targa Tasmania.

Faster on a road rally than a GT3 RS and Gallardo SuperLeggera.

Although outright line honours are no longer a chance due to rear suspension issues on day two, Ray Vandersee the driver and designer of the Skelta proved to everyone on day three that his little car is a giant killer.

Despite the issues on day two Vandersee came out swinging on day three and won five straight stages.

The Skelta was designed and is built by Vandersee at his factory in Toowoomba, Queensland. To understand why the Skelta is faster than a Lamborghini SuperLeggera or Porsche 911 GT3 RS, take a look at the specs;

Chassis: Chrome Molybdenum steel spaceframe reinforced with carbon fibre and Kevlar centre tunnel and side pods

Body: Carbon fibre/Kevlar

Weight: 650kg dry. 50/50 distribution

Engine: 2-litre Honda F20C

Output: 180Kw (241hp@8500RPM)

Power/Weight: 3.61Kg/Kw

Transmission: 6-speed

Suspension: Double unequal length wishbones with inboard Proflex type shock/spring units

Brakes: Ventilated, cross-drilled 298mm discs with 4 piston callipers (f&r)

Performance (calc): 0-100km/h: 4.1 secs

0-400m: 12.1 secs

Top speed: 254km/h (low downforce spec)

All that of course may still not be fast enough for you… it’s obviously not for Ray who has put together the Skelta RST for those that think 0-100km/h in 4.1seconds is a little lazy. The Skelta RST features a 2.4-litre V8 that produces up to 290kW and will rev to 12500rpm. It must be completely insane.

The Skelta G-Force retails for around $134,000 and the Skelta has been designed to be road registered obviously depending on the specification chosen.
