Infiniti Essence Won’t Be Built, But Its Spirit Lives On

Life can be full of let downs if you live your life pining for concept cars. From time-to-time car makers will deliver on their promises (Chevrolet Camaro), while other times car fans are left with nothing more than a dream (Holden Torana TT36).

For those who fell in love with the captivating beauty of the Infiniti Essence Concept from this year’s Geneva Motor Show, the prognosis isn’t good.

The dramatic, swooping lines of the concept car won’t be gracing roads any time soon, but fortunately the news ain’t all bad.

While the car itself won’t see the light of day, elements of the Essence’s design will begin to appear on future Infiniti products. The hot tip is that the concave-surfaced C-pillar kink will be used as a unique identifier for Nissan’s premium brand.

The hybrid powertrain used in the show car also points the way to an upcoming hybrid system.

The next generation of the 5 Series-rivaling M sedan should debut Nissan’s first in-house developed hybrid system when it is launched at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

So while we’ll never see the Essence’s shapely form on the streets, it’s not a total loss. The only thing we Australians need now is an official return of the Infiniti brand.
