At a recent testing day for the Nissan R35 GT-R SpecV, chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno confirmed that Nissan is still yet to release a truly high-performance version of the GT-R.

While the SpecV will perform marginally better than a standard GT-R, it lacks the increase in raw power that many expected - and hoped - would be on the cards.  If today’s news is accurate, then, it appears there’s a good reason for that.

With the more luxury-oriented GT-R SpecM on the way, it looked as though the SpecV might top the performance list.

Not according to Mizuno, who told Inside Line, “The SpecV, in contrast to what you might be thinking, is not the high-performance version of the GT-R.”

Exactly what Nissan feels constitutes a high-performance GT-R is anyone’s guess, but we’d certainly be expecting a notable hike in power and further weight savings over the SpecV.
