It seems number plate are more sought after then classic aussie muscle cars if the Australian International Motor Show auction presented by Shannons is anything to go by.
With over $AU2.64 million being spent on the tin plate metal number plates, which incidentally is double what was spent on the car auctions, numberplates stole the show with the highest sale going to a NSW number plate that reads ‘78’. The winner of this auction paid $AU245,000 to for the ‘right to display’ this numberplate.
Other Records broken included a fully restored Sebring Orange 1969 Holden Monaro GTS 350 (pictured) coupe that went for $AU200,000, while a very low mileage LJ Holden Torana GTR XU-1 passed for $143,000 which are both record prices for these vehicles.
Neither of the Ford Falcon GTHO’s met the reserve price during auction, but Shannons are in negotiations with the losing bidders following both auctions.
