Jaguar’s ambitious turn-around continues with news that the new flagship XJ saloon will make its first public appearance in July, before going on sale in September this year.

Managing director Mike Driscoll announced the plans for the XJ during a media drive of the XFR and XKR sports models. While the timeline was happily revealed, other official details about the car remain scant.

What we do know is that the XJ will arrive with the new naturally-aspirated 5.0 litre V8 and 3.0 litre turbo diesel V6 from the smaller XF, with a supercharged XJR to follow later.

Also included will be the ‘Jaguar Drive’ centre console, complete with rotary gearshift as well as the innovative lighting and motorised dash vents which debuted in the XF.

Underneath, the XJ will retain its aluminium architecture to keep weight below 1800kg, while outside the look will shift dramatically from the current staid image to something more akin to the ultra-modern four-door coupe style of the XF.
