Subaru Australia has released just 50 units of its special limited edition Liberty GT spec.B R.
The changes to the regular Liberty GT Spec.B that have brought Subaru Australia to slap an R on the end are entirely aesthetic, but for the die-hard Subaru fan or simply the clever collector, snapping one up would seem a clever move.
Unfortunately, with only 50 of the Liberty GT spec.B R models being produced, there are no photos of this short-run special edition. The photo we’ve used above is of course the Japan-only Subaru Legacy STI S402.
The turbo-charged Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive Liberty GT spec.B R features a rich ochre leather trim interior, as well as a black honeycomb grille which, by the sounds of it, may in fact be identical to the grille of the S402.
Ochre door trims and centre console are complemented by silver alloy-type interior highlights.
Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: “Subaru’s performance special editions are renowned for their retained value and with just 50 of these Liberty GT spec.B Rs available, we anticipate significant interest.”
The Liberty GT spec.B R is available with a choice of the six-speed manual or five-speed SPORTSHIFT automatic transmission, and is priced at $56,990 RRP.
With the production version of the all-new 2010 Subaru Legacy (Liberty) expected to debut at the upcoming New York Motor Show, this might be your last chance to grab a special edition of the current Liberty.

Looks cheap…
For a few buckos more, i’d rather the Evo X 5sp man base model. I reckon the Evo would retain just as much value as the Liberty Spec R, while being a hell-ova lot more fun!
So how’s it different to the regular Spec B?
Well aside from the interior trim changes, not much. Subaru Australia make no mention of any mechanical changes or performance improvements.
The differences are entirely cosmetic it seems. Plus, with the price for the spec.B R being exactly the same as that of the regular spec.B we’d wager that the release of the R is just a tactic to get more buyers through Subaru’s doors.
you can buy a lot for 56k these days… Even the Golf R32 looks nicer inside n out.
Subaru have lost the plot since 2006…
Has anyone tried to trade in a Subaru of late?.. I have, there value sure has dropped.
