Video: Nissan ‘R35’ GT-R Crashes Behind Evo IX MR

Car Enthusiasts 101, Lesson #483: It turns out that buying a hero car doesn’t make you a hero, as this unlucky Nissan GT-R driver ex-driver discovered recently.

If the driver’s insurance company gets a hold of this video, I suspect the car won’t be the only write-off in the equation.

There seems to be a fair bit of over-correcting in the corners coming from the GT-R, so you can decide for yourself what the cause of this screw-up was, but one thing is for sure: that’s one less Nissan GT-R for future collectors.

Thanks, David!

The pic of the Evo at the end is just G-A-Y.

Seems pretty clear to me the outcome of this scenario had nothing to do with the cars, but the *drivers*.

I dunno about 'overcorrection', I didn't pick up on much of that, but there were at least two corners before the crash happened where the GT-R driver came in way too hot. Driving that quickly at night on a wet and foggy road (you can see headlight reflections on the road and fog) demands total concentration and familiarity (read: mastership) of your car. There's no margin for error - overconfidence, lack of skill, lack of familiarity with your car, etc etc

    IN SLOW, OUT FAST
GT-R's shunt is definatley driver error, lack of car control ability. On most technical circuits, road courses, or twisty country roads any lower powereded car can dominate over a larger horsepowered car as long as their is some talent behind the wheel. (not that Evo is low HP, by any means, but compared to exotic GT-R's HP) We've all seen the MINIs post better times than Vettes and Vipers at our local SCCA Auto-X, and seen plenty of BMW E30s bahnstorming passed Porsche GT3 at local trackdays and HPDEs. GT-R owner would have been better off buying a used Mitsu Evo or Subie STi and with his money saved taken several High Perfomance Driving Education courses, Auto-X school, and some Trackdays under his belt.
