After unveilling the Legacy Concept in Detroit back in January (the production version of which is known locally as the Subaru Liberty), it is now expected to debut at the New York Auto Show next month.

With a face some say only a mother could love, the new Legacy concept caused quite a commotion among Subaru pundits.

Now, new rumours circulating today - including technical details - suggest that a revised front clip will appear on the production version when it debuts, different to that shown on the concept.

A forum post on the NASIOC Subaru community website - a post which has since been pulled, supposedly at the request of Subaru of America - revealed apparently official details of the 2010 Subaru Legacy/Liberty.

A 2.5 litre turbocharged four cylinder and 3.6 litre six-cylinder engine will purportedly be on offer, while a six-speed manual or a CVT transmission will handle cog swapping duties.

Both Premium and standard trim models will still be available with 18 inch wheels, an electric parking brake, and an iPod interface on the feature list.

Six new colours are expected to join the palette.

Upgraded double-wishbone suspension will appear out back, which should improve cargo capacity markedly.

If the production version Legacy does make an appearance in New York, we'll bring you all the details as it happens. Stay tuned.
