Nissan Heading Back To The Ring To Set New GT-R And GT-R SpecV Lap Times

In a recent interview with our friends at GTRBlog, Nissan’s Chief Test Driver, Toshio Suzuki, revealed that Nissan will soon be returning to the Nordeschliefe with an ‘09 model GT-R and the new SpecV.

Nissan aims to set new and improved lap records in the process and claw back precious seconds - or even eclipse times set by the Corvette ZR-1 and Dodge Viper ACR.

There’s been much conjecture about the validity of lap times set at the Nurburgring, but one thing remains certain: people definitely want to know, and the manufacturers are only too happy to give the people what they want.

Nissan has been responsible for much of the hype surrounding the lap-time battle, so it’s perhaps expected that it would make the effort to return to the Green Hell for the sake of a few seconds.

According to Mr Suzuki, the updated 2009 GT-R and the SpecV are definitely both faster than previously, but lap times will largely depend on the conditions on the day.

Suzuki feels that a 4-5 second improvement for the 2009 model GT-R is possible under the right conditions. Meaning the lighter, more powerful SpecV should be faster again.

Rest assured Nissan will be pulling out all the stops on this one.  We’ll update you when we have more.

I wonder if engineers from Porsche strategically positioned around the circuit will take pot shots at the GTR with paint ball guns
