Volkswagen May Be Considering A BlueMotion Sports - Or BlueSport - Range

In an interview with Britain’s evo magazine during the Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen’s R&D head honcho Dr Ulrich Hackenburg revealed that the German giant is looking at the feasibility of launching a sports range that follows the company’s BlueMotion philosophy.

With the strong showing of Volkswagen’s BlueMotion range at Geneva, it’s clear that a large part of the company’s plans for the future revolve around fuel-efficient motoring.

Dr Hackenburg believes though that Volkswagen can “make a connection between fun, performance and low consumption.”

If you’re inclined to doubt the good doctor’s words, a look back at the recent Concept Bluesport will change your mind quickly enough – maybe even as quick as the diesel-powered Concept BlueSport’s 6.6 second sprint to 100km/h.

Volkswagen is right now studying the viability of the BlueSport as a production model, and if we do see it – likely around late 2011 – it might just be one of a few models sold under the BlueSport brand.
