2009 Volkswagen Polo First Official Images Revealed In Lead Up To Geneva Motor Show

The man named Vince has done it again, this time getting his hands on the first official images of the upcoming 2009 Volkswagen Polo. Of course, we’ve got no official word that they’re official, but they sure don’t look dodgy to us.

No information has been provided by Volkswagen to accompany these images, but with the Geneva Motor Show mere days away, those details are not far off.

The most recent stories have the Polo receiving a few options in the power department.

The Polo BlueMotion is rumoured to land around the middle of the year, with a  55kW (74hp) 1.2 litre TDI diesel engine making 180Nm (132lb-ft) of torque.  Longer gearing and improved aerodynamics should bring emissions down to around 90g/km.

Three 1.4 litre petrol engines are also on the cards, starting with a 62kW (84hp) version and moving up to a 77kW (104hp) TSI version and a 125kW (168hp) TSI engine for the Polo GTI.

Diesel options are to be expected, with the likely suspects expected to be a range of 1.6 litre plants in 51kW (69hp), 66 (89hp) and 77kW (104hp) variants.

Volkswagen's brilliant DSG transmission will hopefully find its way in as an option, but the most likely source of cog swapping is expected to be in the form of regular manual and automatic transmissions.

We’re likely looking at a sports variant here – though below the GTI – as the 16- or 17-inch rims and lightly bolstered seats don’t really scream ‘base model’.

The small roof-mounted lip and the subtle but significant angle of the belt line adds another dollop of sportiness to the new Polo’s look.

The interior of the new Polo is, to put it simply, stunning.  If you’re a fan of all-black interiors, you’re not going to have a hard time finding things to like when sitting in the baby Volkswagen.

If anything, the official final production model is strikingly close to the GTI concept art we posted last month.  Perhaps we can now say we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the pocket rocket version of the 2009 Polo?

Volkswagen is also rumoured to be looking at cabrio and – get this – MPV options for the new Polo, as well as a possible SUV variant.

This is the best looking Polo yet I think, finally the Polo is starting to look as good as the Golf.
