AutoCar are reporting that Aston Martin have received over 1,500 orders for their new Aston Martin DBS, effectively tying up the next five years production. Aston is currently building the DBS at the rate of 300 units per annum and unless this changes the DBS is going to be one sought after ‘bespoke’ supercar.

According to AutoCar, Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Bez has indicated they are looking for a way to increase production so as not to end up with a long line of disgruntled well-to-do want-to-be clients sniffing around places like Maranello with pockets full of cash and a need for speed.

But that’s not the only issue. Upping production of the DBS could see the four-door Rapide, due for release in 2009 (or thereabouts), looking for a new production centre. Aston are planning to produce somewhere between 1000 and 2000 of the four-door supercars per year from their Gaydon facility but increased DBS production could impinge on that plan – and that’s before any consideration is even given to production of the replacement for the Vanquish.

Being popular and fancied by the well heeled seems to have its share of problems. I wonder how the brass at Ford are feeling about now, knowing that they sold this manufacturer of magnificence for a pittance earlier this year...
