World car manufacturers seem to be taking the Australian motor industry more and more seriously these days with confirmation today that Volkswagen’s Touareg R50 will be making its world premier at the Sydney Motor Show in a week from today.
VW haven’t given everything on the Touareg R50 away just yet, but the specialists at Volkswagen Individual GmbH are promising “generous” increases on the current output of 230kW and 750Nm produced by the current Touareg V10 TDi model the R50 is based on.
The VW Touareg R50 will be debuting alongside heavyweights such as the Mitsubishi Evolution X, the new Toyota Landcruiser, and Asia Pacific’s debut of the new Mazda 6, Lexus IS-F and BMW CS concept, not to mention local heroes HSV and FPV having a few surprises up their sleeve.

I’m not sure why - and it is a cool picture - but Touareg just leaves me cold. This R50 monster’s included.
Im not a huge fan of the standard Touareg or the Q7/Cayenne that it shares its platform with either Gunnar, but there is just something very cool about VW’s ‘R’ theme that makes me giggle like a school girl… hee hee hee
R50 has actually launched here in NZ 2-3 months ago… or even longer
It’s nice, loud and has an awesome kit and stuff.
The thing is, it’s 20 grand more than the V10 but it’s taken the old V10’s price and knocked the current V10 down.
Driviing it seems more like a petrol car except for the lower revs of the diesel. And it’s just as economical. Anyone wanna sponsor me $180000?
