The stringent Euro NCAP crash-test assesment program has recently revised its testing procedure, and Honda’s showroom success the Accord Euro has passed with full marks.

It’s not the first time the Accord Euro has done it either, with the car scoring a full five-star rating under the old testing regime. This time around the rules are harder, but the sharp-looking Euro has once again proved its merit.

The Accord Euro scored big points for Vehicle Stability Assist program, which is standard fitment to every model in the range. The Euro’s Electric Power Steering system also won praise for its ability to guide the car away from dangerous situations when the VSA system demanded it - a potential lifesaver for drivers who panic when their car gets out of shape.

Six airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, anti-whiplash headrests and strong child seat anchor points also contributed to the Euro’s 86 percent adult occupant and 79 percent child occupant safety rating.

Pedestrian safety was the Euro’s weakest area, with only a 54 percent protection rating being given. Still, with break-away windsreen wiper pivots, energy-absorbing bonnet hinges, collapsing fender mounts and plenty of space between the engine and the bonnet, you can hardly accuse Honda of not trying.

The 2009 Honda Accord has yet to be tested by the local Australian New Car Assesment Program (ANCAP).
