2009 Hyundai i30cw Wagon

Hyundai's segment-stretching i30cw Wagon went on display at the Melbourne Motor Show today, with the competitively priced load-lugger set to go on sale later in March.

Built upon a stretched version of the i30 hatchback's platform, the i30cw blends a relatively compact frame with generous (for its overall dimensions) boot space - making it, in Hyundai's words, perfect for families who require space, but could do without the extra expense of an SUV.

The i30cw's engine lineup is shared with its smaller hatchback sibling, with a 1.6 litre CRDi turbodiesel and a 2.0 litre petrol motor on offer. As with the regular i30, it is available with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Hyundai will also be releasing a limited-edition Sportswagon variant of the i30cw too, which will get 17-inch alloys wearing 225/45 rubber, iPod, USB and auxillary connectivity, steering wheel-mounted controls for the six-speaker audio system, leather interior, ESP and six airbags as standard.

The i30cw will retail from $20,890 upon launch, with higher-spec models like the Sportwagon going for $29,890.
