Mitsubishi Evo X – Evolution of the species

The following spy photos of Mitsubishi’s tenth generation Lancer Evolution confirm that styling wise it very closely follows the Prototype X concept car first seen at January’s Detroit Motor Show.

The new Mitsubishi Evo X is expected to break cover officially at the Tokyo Motor Show in October of this year. The schizophrenic road rocket has a flash new body and the usual Evo fireworks can be expected to continue.

You can always tell a serious performance turbo by where the intercooler is placed and how big it is. WRX - not serious. Evo X - deadly serious. Thats a big intercooler for a factory 2.0-litreÂ

The Evo X will feature a new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Power figures are not known but expect more than the 206Kw of the current model. Whispers around the internet suggest upwards of 230Kw.

Expect tweaks to the current models AWD system including the ability to choose between a number of settings depending on the road type and weather conditions. Transmissions will include a 6-speed manual and possibly a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission with steering mounted paddle shifts.

Pricing is not known but the consensus is that it will remain close to the current Evo IX price of $57k. There is some speculation that the price may leap to in excess of $75k but I personally don’t see that happening despite the rumours. Time will tell.
