2009 Melbourne Motor Show: Audi RS6

It may not be the newest kid on the block, but that doesn't make it any less worthy of adoration. Audi's RS6 has been available as a wagon on Australian shores since October 2008, but sitting on the Audi stand, like the supercar-rivalling threat it is, is the sedan.

Pictures of this sedate-looking sedan fail to convey just how pumped those guards really are and how insanely wide the delectable looking matte grey rims appear. To match that a deep front bumper bulging with intakes and twin-pipes on either side of the rear diffuser signal some serious intent.

Just how serious? Try 5.0 litres of twin-turbocharged V10 pushing out 426 kW of power and 650 Nm of torque, driven though a six-speed tiptronic auto to a Quattro all-wheel-drive system. More excessive sounding executive transport you are not likely to find.

Audi has added the right amount of exotic too with all-alloy suspension and Dynamic Ride Control dampers keeping those 20 inch tyres in contact with the turf. Massive 390 mm front and 365 mm rear discs come in very handy for washing off speed, or alternatively you can opt for carbon-ceramic rotors with 420 mm front rotors.

Inside leather trim abounds with carbon-fibre inserts and the potential to upgrade to hugely bolstered, body-hugging front pews. Also included in the standard pakage are a sunroof, satellite navigation with TV tuner, dual zone climate control and a sunroof.

The RS6 is available now but with so much performance on tap in such a practical package, don't expect them to be easy to find.
