BMW 3-Series GT Concept to Debut in Frankfurt?

The render you see above accompanies rumours suggesting that BMW may be working on a 3-Series GT concept car for the Frankfurt Motor Show later in the year.

While nothing has been officially confirmed, it makes sense if you remember that BMW is about to unveil its 5-Series GT Concept at the fast-approaching Geneva Show.

Public reaction to the 5-Series GT will likely play a key role in the decision to move ahead with a 3-Series variant, so we’ll keep tabs on the Geneva unveiling to see how the 5-Series fares.

The speculation suggests the GT will carry a longer wheel base and roofline than the 3-Series Wagon (pictured above) but be smaller in stature, and price, than the X3. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive would be on offer and there’s also the possibility of a hybrid down the track.

Customers looking for the versatility and space of a hatchback but without bulk and thirst of an SUV would be the targets for such a vehicle. The names Progressive Activity Coupe or the V3 have been thrown about so far; but there’s nothing concrete just yet.

We’re already imagining an AWD 3-Series GT with the 3.0 litre twin turbo inline six from the 335i belting up a winding mountain road. (We really like the sound of that…)

We’ll keep you posted ‘as’ slash ‘if’ slash ‘when’ more information comes to light; stay tuned.
