Audi’s wagon-in-combat-gear, the A6 Allroad Quattro, has come in for a refresh. Chief among the upgrades and improvements is a revised 3.0 litre TDI V6 which delivers more power and greater fuel ecomony.

Also on the new features list are daytime running lights, LED tail lights and turn signals integrated into the rear view mirrors - minor changes to bring it into line with the rest of the updated A6 range.

New design 18-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels round out the rest of the exterior package, while new trim finishes and colours dress up the interior.

The new generation TDI V6 produces 176kW (236hp) from 4000 to 4400 rpm and 500Nm (369lb-ft) of torque from 1500 to 3000 rpm, up five kW and 50 Nm over the previous generation. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.5 l/100 km on the combined cycle, an improvement of 15 percent, while CO2 emissions are down to 199 g/km.

The high tech power plant features high pressure common rail direct injection and high speed Piezo injectors capable of delivering five injections per stroke-cycle for optimum performance across all engine load situations. The A6 Allroad Quattro is also able to sprint from standstill to 100 km in 7.4 seconds - 0.4 seconds faster than the outgoing model.

The engine transfers power to all four wheels, with a normal torque-split of 40:60 front to rear. Drive is supplied through a six-speed tiptronic transmission and height-adjustable air suspension allows the Allroad to venture just a little bit further off the beaten track.

The A6 Allroad Quattro is priced from $108,900 and is available with an optional Technik Package, which includes MMI Navigation Plus, iPod integration and an electronically operated tailgate for an additional $3,675.

A Comfort Package featuring an electric tinted glass sunroof, Valcona leather upholstery, wooden inlays and a parking system with rear view camera is also on offer for $3,494.
