TMR News and Features
The folks over at Car Magazine have managed to get some snaps and info of the Porsche 911 Turbo update due in 2009. It only seems like yesterday that the new 997 based Turbo was released but Porsche have been busy working away in the background on an even better one.
Second time around will see more power and torque from an engine that is more efficient and produces less CO2. The big news in the update department though is the introduction of Porsche’s first twin-clutch gearbox.
Among the expected changes to the Turbo’s 3.6-litre turbocharged flat-six will be a move to direct injection which is where the improvements in efficiency and emissions will be found. Combined with refinements to the turbos VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) system and the fitment of the GT2’s expansion intake manifold the revised turbo is tipped to produce almost 370kW/500hp.
Styling changes are as usual evolutionary in true Porsche tradition. They appear to include detail changes to the rear tail lights, exhaust outlets and a smoother rear bumper.
If the idea of a twin-clutch 911 Turbo with more power and greener credentials gets you all hot and bothered then you will need to cool your heels until ‘sometime’ during 2009. Expect a 2009 Geneva Motor Show debut.

[...] On the other hand, according to Car Magazine, the 911 Turbo being shown at 2009 Geneva Auto Show will have DI. That would imply DI will be in the Turbo for MY2010. I tend to doubt that Cayman would get DI before Turbo but I guess it’s possible (e.g., Cayenne). I will also be interested to see how much DI improves performance (power & efficiency). It may not be quite as great as expected for the Porsche engines. In particular, DI achieves higher efficiency, in part, because it allows for higher compression ratios, which in turn allow greater energy recovery per piston stroke. However, the flat six in the Cayman S is already operating at a compression ratio of 11.1. Audi’s 3.2 DI V-6 is only marginally better at 11.3. Feeling the heat from the Nissan GT-R, are we? Unfortunately, giving the Porsche 911 Turbo even more horsepower is not the answer. Porsche needs to get back to its roots as a company that can make pure sportscars by giving the Cayman more horsepower and pushing the 911 to Grand Tourer status. So a new 911 Turbo in development doesn’t excite me much. Now, put a bigger engine in the Cayman, now that would be revolutionary thinking (for Porsche.)

The truth if, PORSCHE this feeling the heat of the Japanese cars, because Japanese are grasped in wanting to always compare their cars with those of PORSCHE, even marks as HONDA (ACURA NSX 2009) and NISSAN (GT-R 2009) they buy vehicles PORSCHE to study their PERFORMANCE, to compare them with their cars and to want to overcome them checks this way it: http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=wmSXHJV441E http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=b60jUybVzRY behind each one of those vehicles appears a 911 TURBO I upset that causation truth?. NISSAN also says a white lie when saying that their car has 475 HP checks it yourselves: http://www.autospies.com/news/Nissan-s-white-tie-GT-R-Dyno-Tested-at-507-HP-at-least-28094 /
If PORSCHE has decided to evolve its cars it is so that its clients are according and to maintain their sales, as well as for not being ridiculed by a car that he says to have 475 HP and he has 507hp;)
There is no substitute…

Manoj, I am in the same boat - er, car. My dealer salesman (USA) told me that he is going to Spain in June for the launch and to be educated on the 2009 911 Turbo. He told me that the car would be available/in showrooms in Sept/Oct of this year. I am skeptical that it will be available by then, but he would know better than I. I’m figuring on ordering to spec, so, I suppose I’m looking at Feb/Mar of 2009 for delivery.

I have this car on order and the build date is 8-26 and should be here by late September. You can likely get yours before Feb/Mar. if you are not in a major city. Can’t wait to get mine.

Also, my salesman told me that the 2009 911 Turbo would have DI, double clutch, and 7 gears. We’ll see soon enough.

Ordered 2009 997 TT and is scheduled for delivery for November 2008. Will have all the above….blue tooth, IPOD, touch screen, 7 gears, DI……This was on the first allocation in southern California….and you are correct……Porsche buyers used to drive Nissans…not now.

According to my salesman, the 7 will not be here in 2009. I have Tiptronic ordered on mine. Have driven several and it is great.

Turns out my salesman was wrong, completely wrong. I have spoken with several Porsche salesmen since and they all know very little, which is a constant at Porsche. It must be Porsche policy to keep these guys in the dark. The internet is a better source for what’s next.
Anyhow, I’ll be ordering the 2010 (hoping in March ‘09 for October ‘09 delivery), which I expect will have all the things my salesman told me the 2009 would have and more, plus a body re-design.

The new 2009 Turbo will be almost the same as the 2008 Turbo. There will be no new LED tail lights, no double lens HID lights up front, and no direct fuel injection. In short, it will be the 2008 turbo with a few new options. I am very dissapointed
The only major changes will be the addition of the IPOD integration and a jump in price.
