The Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria have brought tragedy and heartache to thousands of Australians. In the face of this national disaster, it is comforting that the Aussie spirit is alive and well, with the general public and business community both digging deep to assist victims.

Car Manufacturers have been quick to react, many making sizeable donations, despite the fact that they are all embroiled in what are, historically, some of the toughest economic times in our history.

GM Holden, via the GM Foundation, has pledged a donation to the Red Cross Bushfires Appeal of $US100,000 ($152,340). Today, they have added to that pledge by providing 300 vehicles to assist victims of the bushfires.

The vehicles will be made available for periods of between three and 12 months, allowing victims the opportunity to begin to get back on their feet. We’ve all seen the many burnt-out cars in the fire zones, there is no doubt that the loan cars will be put to good use.

Holden will work with the Victorian Government on a plan to ensure the cars are allocated and distributed to those most in need.
