Toyota has announced today that the LandCruiser Prado line-up will now include a new standard-grade model, and other variants will feature additional standard equipment in an effort to further boost Prado’s strong sales performance in 2007.
The new standard-grade Prado will be available as a turbo-diesel with the choice of manual or automatic transmission. A leather steering wheel with audio controls will now be standard across all five Prado models, including the new entry level model.
There are also two new option packs available, the first offering ABS anti-lock brakes, cruise control and a leather gearshift lever. The second option pack for the manual transmission variant includes front, side and curtain shield airbags, while the auto pack includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), climate control air-conditioning and an exterior chrome package.
The new Prado Standard with manual transmission has a recommended retail price of $44,600*, while the automatic variant has an RRP of $47,600*. Prado Grande has also been upgraded and is now equipped as standard with a rear view camera.
Prado’s features include a 3.0 litre common-rail DOHC four-cylinder intercooled and turbocharged direct-injection engine which produces 32 per cent more power and 19.5 per cent more torque than the engine it replaces from the 2006 Prado.
Maximum power is 127kW at 3400rpm (up from 96kW at 3600rpm) while peak torque jumps to 410Nm at 1600-2800rpm (up from 343Nm at 2000rpm) – when compared to the previous model.
Prado buyers can choose between Toyota’s A750F Super ECT five-speed automatic transmission (also seen in the LandCruiser 100 Series and Prado quad-cam V6 models), and the six-speed manual transmission currently available in the Prado V6.
So if you’re looking at going bush in a Prado, this would be the one.
