WE DON’T NORMALLY endorse products or magazines at TMR, however every so often a story comes out that is too good not to shamelessly plug.
Car magazine in the UK always seems to have its finger on the pulse of the European auto industry and now seems to have struck gold with a world exclusive concerning a new McLaren supercar.
The legendary Mclaren F1 supercar was launched in 1993 and is still held in reverence by performance car fans the world over. This time around McLaren is preparing to produce what looks to be a smaller, lighter, stronger and more nimble supercar, codenamed the P11.
The Mclaren P11 will be V8 powered and will feature technology and manufacturing techniques derived from lessons learnt in the F1 racing series, however I am unable to confirm if any classified Ferrari documents have influenced the design of the P11 – sorry, couldn’t resist.
Expect an official unveiling over the coming months with production expected to start around 2010.

Looking at the above pic there is definitely more influence from Ferrari than Merc - Partiularly the Front Air Dam.
The rear end and side intakes look like they’re from the Porsche GT. The headlights look similar to the Gallardo and the wheels from BMW.
Infact I can’t see any Merc in it at all. So if it uses a V8 I’d say it would probably come from the Koenigsegg. and if it has AWD it would come from Audi
Which would make it a truly European Sportscar
what is it with people? this car looks like a mini that car looks like a falcon, who cares if it looks similar to another car or not. The main thing at the end of the day is, do you like it? If the answer is yes it looks good, and it goes hard and I’d love one in my drive stop bitching. Why would you carry on so much? You can’t aafford it so you bag it, get a life or a better job and leave real enthusiasts to enjoy them.

V8 from a Koenigsegg, huh? Just so you know, that’s not going to happen. And neither is the AWD from Audi. That would be completely moronic. Last I heard McLaren was looking at using a BMW engine again along with a double-clutch, paddle-shift, F1 transmission. And I really hope it wouldn’t be AWD. Also, the reason it doesn’t look like a Mercedes is because they are looking to beat some of the upcoming Mercedes supercars that are coming out. Afterall, they did drop their affiliation with McLaren a while back.
Its hard to say what they going to do. if its just another supercar that wants to be said in the same breath as the italians, germans and strangly the swedish then a V8 AWD double-clutch paddle-shift would be fine. However if McLaren is looking for challenges more along the line of the Bugatti veyron and the SSC aero then they going to need to pack more power. Also the drag…who designed the shape? And the car does look like a mix between a Noble and a Porsche GT.
honestly i don’t really care if it has traits of other cars. When it comes out i think it will be one of the best cars on the market. I mean come on it’s body and whatever else can be is gonna be made of carbon fibre and aluminum, the SLR made of the same materiels cost about 500,000$ , while the p11 will cost under half that starting at 240,000$ . plus it’ll weigh under 3000lbs and have over 600hp the thing is gonna be a total rocket ship. Just like hank said i would take it any day instead of all the cars autophile named, which apparently it has simalarities too.
autophile, I dont know where you get your ideas from but there is no way that Mclaren will go anywhere near Koegisegg (Volvo/ford Forced induction engine that is massively unreliable) Or Audi (who own Lambo, who are a direct competitor to this product) Mercedes will supply the engine as although they are producing the sls it is a completley different market. Since Mercedes have a 30percent stake in Mclaren it makes good financial sense for both parties.
Plus the 6.2 AMG unit is lighter, more reliable, and puts out higher torque figures than any of its counterparts BMW v8 etc… its an amazing engine, designed by the same guy who made the Carrera GT V10 powerplant.
