HSV countdown to biggest moment in 20 year history

Big statements and bold claims are often made in the car industry. Some are proven correct while the majority usually fall somewhat short of the mark. This time its HSV’s turn – our home grown performance car manufacturer has placed a rather ominous countdown timer on its website and claims to be counting down to the biggest moment in their last 20 years.

As I write this the timer has a further 24 days 2 hours and 17 minutes left to countdown which takes us to 10am on the 11th of October about three hours after the Sydney Motor Show has opened to the press. There have been plenty of rumours concerning a mystery HSV to mark HSV’s 20th Anniversary but its proven to be an elusive and closely guarded secret.

Current speculation covers everything from a ‘special’ 20th Anniversary Clubsport right through to a RHD Australian delivered HSV ZR-1 Corvette. The biggest moment in HSV’s history is a big statement and suggests that this won’t be just another Limited Edition Clubsport – that’s just another moment, not the biggest.

There are two new (to HSV) Chev engines that are now available, the LS3 6.2-litre and the monster LS7 7.0-litre from the ZR-1 Corvette. Could we be about to see the unveiling of a new HSV model featuring one of these engines? An up-spec GTS maybe?

We’ve previously covered the fabled GTS-R 427 a special edition E-Series GTS (artists impression above) featuring the LS7 V8, a car whose existence HSV deny - but then they would, wouldn’t they.

Whatever HSV have planned, we will be in Sydney when the cover is removed to bring you the first pictures. While we are there we may even take a few snaps of the new E-Series Maloo…
