Mission One Electric Sport Bike Unveiled

Let’s get straight to the important details on this one: 241km/h, 135Nm of torque, 240km range on one charge.  Interested?  So are we.

Built by 'new kids on the block' Mission Motors and designed by Yves Béhar, the Mission One stands as the new benchmark for electric motorcycles. With torque out the wazoo and a top speed most riders aren’t likely to reach, the futuristic bike is sure to be the hot bet for first place when it makes its race debut at the TTXGP – the world’s first clean emission grand prix – on June 12.

The first 50 bikes off the line will be sold as a special Limited Edition model, arriving at their owner's homes in 2010 for the princely sum of AUD$105,165.  If you’re not a Sheik or a genuine enthusiast, you’d best stand back.  Mission Motors says the standard model will be more affordable, and will be announced later this year.

Mission Motors co-founders, Edward West and Mason Cabot, pulled together a list of names that reads like the who’s-who of EV and motorcycle technology, including heads from Tesla Motors, Ducati, and Google.

"With the Mission One, we're writing the next chapter in motorcycle design, delivering a new riding experience without sacrificing performance or design in a zero emissions vehicle."

Yves Béhar, designer of the Mission One, described the project as a dream come true.

 

"This project was  a statement about how design can make performance and sustainability come together without compromise," said Yves Béhar. "I believe Mission is an icon for a new era of efficient and exciting vehicles. Designed to express speed and efficiency in it's overall sharp lines, the Mission bike is also highly detailed with special attention to a riders needs, bringing a high level of product design and ergonomics to a new generation of performance transportation."

 

With similar projects being worked on by other already-established motorcycle companies, it might be safe to say the future of motorcycles might turn electric a lot quicker than anyone had expected.

Are we now looking at the last generation of petrol-fuelled motorcycles?

    Funny, they dont seem to mention its weight anywhere. It has components at superbike size and that suggests it may weigh the same or more!
