It's no secret that Chrysler has been looking to offload the Viper nameplate for a while now, the allure of pocketing a few extra pennies proving too hard to resist in these harsh economic times. According to Jim Press, Chrysler’s co-President and senior public relations man, Chrysler currently has three buyers showing an interest.

The sale is said to include the Detroit factory, where each car is hand built by a small team of 110 people.

Surprisingly, Viper sales rose considerably over January but somewhat oddly, when asked about the improved result, Press stated that Chrysler were "doing due diligence".

Chrysler currently has a March 31 deadline to show the Federal government its plans for long term viability (it is thought by some that selling Viper is crucial to Chrysler's survival). Press noted that he does not see the Viper brand being sold before the deadline. If a sale is close though, it should not affect Chrysler's access to the proposed USD $4 billion loan.

So who are the three potential mystery buyers? 'Mum's the word' on that score for the time being, with Chrysler remaining tight-lipped.
