UPDATE: Thanks to Razgriz for 'weathering' the comments and confirming that these images are in fact renderings created by Best Car magazine and it is their interpretation of how they think the new STi will look. Lets hope they are right!
A Japanese magazine has scooped what appear to be pictures of the new 2008 Subaru WRX STi. With the limited pictures and information we have, it seems the STi’s turbo boxer four-cylinder will have a power output of around 220kW (300hp) and be hooked up to a six speed gearbox - no real surprises there.
Carupdate knows that the current Japanese spec WRX or S-GT (as it is known in the land of the rising sun) is only available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, whereas the Australian model WRX will see the larger 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo unit. It appears that the STi featured in the Japanese magazine is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-charged engine similar to that of the earlier WRX models in Japan.
First thing we noticed is the much wider body, more aggressive stance and the quad exhaust system, all of which has been hinted at in previous spy photos that we have featured. The rear diffuser on the lower rear bumper looks neat and I’d imagine the inclusion of fog lights on the front bar will be standard issue. Expect the usual STi upgrades as standard on the 2008 WRX STi such as, a slightly larger turbo and intercooler, more boost, reprogrammed ECU, upgraded clutch and differentials and Brembo brakes amongst other mechanical and detail changes - not to forget the wild looking racing style bucket seats.
Due to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October, the new WRX STi will be star attraction ‘number two’ behind the much anticipated return of Godzilla - the Nissan GT-R.

2. The front fender on the rear 3/4 view is clearly photoshoped
I could list a lot more problems but i don't have time.

I think that means its fair to say that Darcy isnt claiming these to be official images - although plenty of official images are leaked prior to launches - Porsche GT2, Mazda6, Jaguar XF etc etc etc.
I'm glad they were shared - I'm seriously looking to buy an STi when they come to Australia and if they look as good as the one in this article then I'm sold - provided the price isnt stupid.

"Im not sure Regriz, if you look at our Nurburgring coverage of the STI in an earlier article, it actually looks very similar.
see what you think."
He is saying it is the actual STI.
Anyone who sees this article will think this is the new STI. Best Car brings out a new artist rendering every month.

UPDATE: Drat. We have now spoken to our Japan-based contributor, Justin Gardiner. Justin tells us that these are renderings (sigh) done by Best Car that show what the mag believes the new STI will look like. We can only hope it looks this good.

He didn't say what rendering package he used so it looks like razgriz is the n00b assuming all renderings are done in Photoshop.. LMAO! PWNEd and whatever other useless nerd expression you feel like attaching.

Also, I doubt Australia will get the full power that the JDM gets shown above.
