As Honda's Japanese plants wind down production of the S2000 roadster, Honda Europe is gearing up to release the Ultimate Edition S2000 as a final swansong for the venerable high-revvin' ragtop.

The Ultimate Edition doesn't bring any major mechanical improvements with it, but thanks to its eye-grabbingly bright Grand Prix White paintwork and contrasting graphite-coloured alloy wheels, Honda buffs will know you ain't rolling in any run-of-the-mill S2000.

An optional hardtop will also be offered and the interior will be swathed in red leather with matching stitching. Special-edition numbered kickplates denoting each individual car's position in the series will also be fitted to the Ultimate Edition.

The engine, drivetrain and suspension are all unchanged from the standard AP2 S2000's package, but that's hardly a bad thing. After all, with its 177kW naturally-aspirated 2.0 litre inline four driving the rear wheels through one of the best six-speeders in the business, it's not hard to see why the S2000 endeared itself to so many drivers during its 10-year lifespan.

The Ultimate Edition S2000 will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, with sales commencing soon after. We've no idea whether we'll see a similar edition come Downunder, but if you've never sampled an S2000 at its stratospheric 9000rpm redline, then do yourself a favour and buy one while you still can.

Starting in 04, the S2000's redline at 8000. Honda reduced this on the AP2, with the F22C engine.
