The team over at CarScoop claim to have inside information that confirms Renault will pull the wraps off its Megane Coupe RenaultSport (RS) at the 2009 Geneva Show.
The same 2.0 litre turbo engine used in the Megane R26 (pictured following) is expected to appear under the hood and, tweaked of course, rumoured to see an extra 15kWs on tap. Peak power is touted as 186kW which should be a barrel of fun in a car of the RS's dimensions.
A six-speed manual transmission will handle shifting duties while the Coupe's chassis and suspension settings will be revised to match the car's sporting intent. A limited-slip differential will also appear on the options list.
Further models are also expected, which should focus on weight-reduction and refined chassis and suspension settings, rather than outright power increases.
Is this the successor to the famed Alpine A110? Renault fans will be hoping desperately.
Stay tuned for further details as we near the start of the Geneva Show. We'll be keeping our eyes on this one.

Reviews of the R26 have been spectacular though despite being FWD. The obligatory comparisons to the DC2 Type R have also been made by some journos.

The TV ads over here in the UK are really trying to sell the new Renault Megane as a car that was purchased as a clear and educated choice by a male, they are trying to reclaim this demographic and something like this Coupe is a great step towards making it appealing/droolworthy than the very focussed race specials they've brought out previously that are quite enthusiast/niche based.
