Thanks to GM's financial predicament, the launch of the eye-catching Cadillac CTS Coupe has been delayed until 2010.

We snapped the two-door Caddy at the Sydney Motor Show last year when the car was doing the rounds globally. It is easy to see why many will be disappointed with this delay.

An expected production version did not appear at the Los Angeles Motor Show as scheduled so it was obvious then that things weren't working as planned.

GM spokeswoman Joanne Krell outlined Cadillac's position:

"Obviously we are in a challenging economic time, and one of the changes is to move the coupe back a year. Instead of coming out this summer, it will come out next summer."

At this stage, it appears that we're only looking at a delay. There remains, of course, the possibility that the coupe could be dropped all-together if things don't improve for the US economy and for GM.

Cadillac still has the CTS Sport Wagon and SRX crossover to debut this year and claims that both models are still on track.

We'd love to see the Cadillac CTS coupe on our roads down the track so we're hoping that this delay stays just that - a "delay", not a cancellation. We can expect more news of this type however.
