At a loose end this weekend? Do you like the smell of Castrol R, the glint of polished chrome and the old-school simplicity of a classic Hot Rod? Perhaps you’re a simple man, and just like horsepower, flame jobs and girls in cowboy hats…?

Whatever the case may be, it’s likely that the 44th Victorian Hot Rod Show will be right up your alley.

On display will be some of Australia’s most spectacular Hot Rods, cool customs and bikes. This year's event is sponsored by the VACC and, as always, organized by the Victorian Hot Rod Association. It will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition Building, Carlton, over the Australia Day weekend, with more than 180 rods, customised cars, bikes and even boats on display for what will be a memorable four days.

Organisers are expecting in excess of 25,000 visitors over the course of the show.

Visitors to the Show will be invited to help choose ‘Australia’s Coolest Rod’. There is also a door prize of a motor scooter for one lucky show goer.

“It is going to be a very exciting event. Expect plenty of chrome, amazing engines, riotous body-modifications and astonishing craftsmanship,” VACC General Manager, Communications and Marketing, Tim O’Brien said.

Participants will compete for the ‘most desirable vehicle’ on display award, with the first prize being a return to trip for the owner to the home of hot rods, the USA, where entry to similar custom car events will be provided.

“And the next generation of budding car artists will have their chance to show off their talents. Among the range of kid’s activities, there will be a colouring competition, with trophies in the Under 5, Under 10, Under 15 and Open categories.

The 44th Victorian Hot Rod Show is at the Melbourne Exhibition Building.
