Some say he eats glass because he likes the ‘crunch’ and that he cut off his ears to aid his personal aerodynamics. All we know is that he’s called Ben Collins.
Hmmm…that doesn’t sound right.
While we slept, it appears that The Stig’s true identity (this time around) has been revealed to be that of 33 year-old Ben Collins, at least according to the UK’s Telegraph.
Collins certainly has the driving smarts to double as The Stig, with a professional driving portfolio that includes NASCAR and LeMans. Collins has even filled in for Daniel Craig in the stunt driving sequences from the latest Bond flick, Quantum Of Solace.
The most important secret of our time, The Stig’s identity, was apparently revealed by Collins himself, when he was seeking assistance with a limited-edition print of The Stig in action, from an art gallery owner in Bristol.
This latest Stig identity revelation will not surprise everyone. Ben Collins was added to the short list of possible Stigs, following Hammond’s jet car accident, when he was listed as a witness in the police report. Since then, another small clue was uncovered by a builder working at Collins’ home, who came across a display cabinet housing The Stigs white suit and gloves…
So if Ben Collins is The Stig, some new questions are raised. Will Top Gear kill him off as they did when the black Stig revealed his identity? Is Ben Collins the only Stig, or will the widely-held belief that there is more than one Stig keep us all guessing for a long time yet?

I think the builder and gallery owner who “outed” Ben Collins as being Stig should be shot off the deck of an aircraft carrier. Haven’t they got anything better to do with their lives than ruin the fun that millions of other people enjoy… not to mention the damage they could do to Collins’ life and work?
Yeah The Stig is all we need to know, no disrespect to Ben Collins, but the mystery of the Stig’s character is one of the show’s successful elements!

You are all wrong. I was recently in the U.K. and bumped into The Stig at the Nottinghill markets. How did I know it was The Stig? He was wearing a shirt that said “I am The Stig”. He didn’t look anything like Ben Collins.

I still reckon he maybe the main stig…but there is definitely more then one depending on the stunt or scene.
Considering he wasn’t self-promoting, unlike Black Stig, it’s a shame other idiots have to ruin it.
Top Gear doesn’t like people knowing who the Stig is, for obvious reasons, and so if Ben has to lose a pretty plum job over this I reckon all these other jerks should hang their heads in shame.

How could Ben Collins be “The Stig”. There is only one “Stig” and that is me/myself/I. I think all of you have been “Stung” by the “Stig”. Eat my dust!
Apparently there is more than one Stig but Ben Collins was named in the Health & Safety Executive Investigation Report into Hamsters Crash when he nearly lost his life, the Stig obviously couldn’t get away with calling himself “The Stig” to the HSE.
They say that they generally use alternatives if Ben wasn’t available.
I know for a fact he is the Stig. Having spoken to a crew member of Top Gear I can state without doubt the ex “James Bond” stunt driver is the man in white.
I must reinterate here that “I AM THE STIG” and all the others are counterfeits. Must go as I have some fast laps to complete.

This isn’t news, Ben has been in the frame for at least 12 - 18 months. The Stig spoke during a tv interview in 07 (German reporter) and it’s Ben’s voice. Check out the clips on YouTube and all will be revealed.
I adore the TG Trio and The Stig; and though the size of his helmut may change, the spirit of The Stig will live on.
Here’s the bigger question, what happened to TG Dog?
