2009 Nissan GT-R and 370Z ‘Alternity’ Transformers

For children of the 80s, there’s no more enduring memory than the Transformers – at least as far as pop 'toy-culture' goes.  While we may not have known enough about cars at the time to recognise each model the Autobots were based on – Porsches, Nissan 280ZXs, Lamborghinis, even a Lancia Stratos – this only served to maintain our interest as we grew older.

Over the past decade or so, top company and Trasformers licence owner Takara Tomy has sought to keep the transformers line fresh and up to date, releasing plastic and die-cast Autobots and Decepticons disguised as all-new models. Based on the likes of the 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, the Mazda RX-8, and the Ford Mustang GT500, these models are sold under the ‘Binaltech’ name.

Now, under the ‘Alternity’ title, Decepticon leader Megatron returns as the 2009 Nissan 370Z, and Autobot hero Optimus Prime as the 2009 Nissan GT-R.  I don’t know about you fellas, but I’d rather be riding shotgun in a GT-R than a big red truck.  Come to think of it, I prefer Megatron as a 370Z than a wussy little handgun, too.

Hopefully they’ll do something about those panel gaps…

Both of them Nissans? Surely if one is a GT-R, the other should be a Porsche 911 GT2?

Megatron should have been the Lamborghini Reventon ... I can see that car as Megatron
