Toyota Aurion and Camry sales up 75 percent

Toyota’s dominance in the Australian car industry is undisputed and as already reported today they are leading the sales race with their nearest challenger Holden trailing by over 55,000 sales, year to date.

Assisting this surge in sales is the remarkable performance of their Australian manufactured models which have recorded a 75 percent increase in sales when compared to the same period last year.

VFACTS figures confirm that Toyota dealers sold almost 17,400 Camry sedans to the end of August compared with just under 13,000 for the same period in 2006. The six-cylinder Aurion has passed 15,000 sales in the eight months of this year - compared with fewer than 5600 at the same stage last year for the models it replaced.

“These results confirm our strategy for two local cars: a four-cylinder medium car in Camry and a large six-cylinder car in Aurion. Camry continues to claim a dominant share of the medium-car market with sales more than double its nearest rival. We expect a further boost to its popularity with the safety of Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control now standard across the range, in addition to the already standard ABS, Brake Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution”, said Toyota Australia’s senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner

During August, Toyota past the “150,000 sales for the year-to-date” milestone, the earliest that this has ever been achieved by any manufacturer.
