Panasonic Toyota Reveals 2009 F1 Car

Following in the wake of Ferrari's reveal, Toyota has taken the wraps off its 2009 F1 contender. Resplendent in red and white and emblazoned with Panasonic logos, the TF109 was unveiled at the team's Cologne headquarters in Germany.

As with the majority of new cars this season, the Toyota entry will feature notably revised aerodynamics with a wider and lower front wing balanced by a narrower and smaller unit at the rear of the car. All aero add-ons, such as winglets, have been banned by the FIA this year.

For the first time in 12 long years, slick tyres are back. This should account for some of the grip lost through the usage of a smaller rear wing.

Toyota's 2009 driver line-up includes Jarno Trulli, Timo Glock and a third driver by the name of Kamui Kobayashi.

John Howitt , Panasonic Toyota Team president, had this to say at the car's unveiling:

 

"After eight years in Formula 1 we have gained a huge amount of knowledge and improved considerably. We are hungry to win and ready to win, there should be no doubt about that. The new regulations pose an extra challenge, but at the same time offer an opportunity. We have everything we need to win, some exceptionally talented people and a huge motivation to succeed, so now it is down to us to actually make it happen."

    You can have the best tools money can buy in your toolbox but if you don’t know how to use them you’ll still do crap job.
    I am hoping this will not be another season of under achievement.
    It could be do or die this year for toyota.

    The last few years have seen some incredibly close competition and some thrilling races too. There has also been a few snoozefests (Valencia 2008) as well.

    On the whole these regulations will shake things up again and reduce costs by some margin. I really look forward to the season ahead.

    Will Toyota make their way up the grid? I don't know, but as long as there are 20 cars in a tight race, that is all that matters!
