The rumour-mill is working overtime in the automotive kingdom at the moment. Of the ‘Big Three’ American manunfacturers Chrysler is often speculated as being in the worst shape, so Vice Chairman and President Tom LaSorda has stepped forward to clarify the company’s position.

Despite suggestions that the Jeep brand is likely to be sold off separately, this is not the case, LaSorda has said. Many analysts figure Jeep is Chrysler’s strongest brand and would attract a decent amount of income for the company if separated off.

LaSorda has admitted that non-earning assets or assets which “may be coming due” are being looked at for sale. The tooling for previous generation vehicles or those approaching the end of their production schedule may be sold, however plants and nameplates will remain with the company.

"What was reported that we're in discussions to sell the Jeep brand is absolutely false," LaSorda announced to reporters "We will not separate the brands from the company."

Conditions of the Federal Aid package granted to Chrysler also mean that no asset can be sold without the prior approval of the government appointed ‘car czar’.
