Is the Nissan Mixim electric concept the most aesthetically challenged concept seen in quite some time? The only recognizable features are four round wheels and a central drivers seat reminiscent of that found in a McLaren F1. Where the McLegend is a car of dreams the Nissan Mixim is more like something from a nightmare I had when I was twelve.
A concept car for people who don’t really like cars? Quite possibly. Ugly and electric are two words that strike fear into the heart of any car enthusiast. The thought of an ugly car is one thing but an ugly electric car would have most genuine car folk picking up their bat and ball and beating a hasty retreat.
Inspired by a crash helmet the ‘adventurous’ designers of the Mixim have aimed it squarely at young people who engage the world via their computer and the internet with a steering wheel and controls that are inspired by computer game interfaces.
Powered by a Nissan electric motor/generator and with the help of lithium-ion batteries Nissan claim the Mixim has “unusually rapid performance” and a “usefully extended range”. Two electric motors work in tandem powering an axle each, effectively making the Mixim AWD.
Thankfully, the Mixim is only a concept but Nissan do point out that it has been developed in line with the Nissan Green Program, the company’s publicly stated desire to create a more sustainable mobile society. I think I’d rather walk…
The Mixim will be debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show where it will drive from a low stage via a ramp to an elevated display platform on the Nissan stand, throughout the course of the show. The Mixim stand will no-doubt be a nice quiet place to enjoy your latte away from the crowds.
